High Visibility Response Team
The Medicine Hat Police Service High Visibility Response Team (HVRT) season began on July 1, 2018 and will operate until August 24th, 2018. The HVRT will consist of four members of the MHPS Community Safety Unit, who have completed specialized training as outlined by the Law Enforcement Bike Association.
The mandate of the HVRT for the 2018 season will be to focus on balancing enforcement with crime prevention strategies and the team will focus on providing a presence in the downtown core, in parks and on pathways and any other areas of concern that are identified.
Community engagement initiatives will also be a priority and the team will be attending various community events and will provide demonstrations and interact with youth at summer camps.
Other areas of interest that the HVRT will provide attention to include:
- Loitering in the downtown area
- City Transit parkade
- Graffiti issues
- Ross Glen Waterpark
- South Ridge pond
- Skate park
- Echo Dale
- Lions, Strathcona, and Kin Coulee parks
Throughout the season, the HVRT members will be looking for opportunities to “catch” youth members of our community demonstrating positive behaviors for which they can be issued “tickets”. With the assistance of the Medicine Hat Safe Community Association, the HVRT members will be handing out coupons to youth that are wearing proper biking attire and conducting themselves in a positive manner. The positive ticketing program is made possible through the generous donations from local businesses including; Co-op, Burger King, Ruckers, City of Medicine Hat and McMann.
We look forward to a great summer season!
