Robbery/Resist Arrest / Escape Lawful Custody

On July 3 at approximately 10:30AM police responded to Shoppers Drug Mart in Crescent Heights for a report of a robbery. A male had entered the store and shoplifted store items and attempted to flee. A store employee confronted the male at which time a brief struggle ensued.

The suspect male was in possession of an edged weapon at which time he brandished it to the employee and threatened to use it to complete his escape. A short time later the investigation led police to the 2300 block of Hatcher DR NE to a multi-dwelling complex.

Police located the suspect on the second floor at which time the suspect resisted the arrest and fled through an apartment and jumped off the balcony to escape police. Containment was set up in the area but was unsuccessful in the suspects’ apprehension.

This suspect has been positively identified by police through video surveillance as:

Graeme ILLINGSWORTH born 1978-11-15 of no fixed address in Medicine Hat

Mr. ILLINGSWORTH also is wanted on numerous Alberta radius warrants for:


-PSP under $5000

-Common assault

-Obstruction of a Police Officer

Brooks RCMP:

-Possession of a Controlled Substance

-Impaired Driving

ILLINGSWORTH is a slim person and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a T-shirt and had no shoes on. He may have access to a bicycle to move about the city. Police ask that if any member of the public believes they have sighted this male; do not approach him. Call 911 to report the sighting.

Today’s robbery file is still under investigation with more charges pending.
