Update to Bomb Threat
On November 9th, 2017, The Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) responded to a bomb threat at a bank on the zero hundred block of 8 St NW, Medicine Hat. Police Service members responded after receiving a complaint from a bank employee. The bank was evacuated as a matter of public safety. The area was cleared and it was determined to be an unsubstantiated threat. Police are treating this as a hoax, the fourth since October 27, 2017
Police are looking at each case independently but considering the same person may be behind all four incidents. The possibilities that these offences may have been committed by more than one-person working together or “copycat” offences by unrelated persons cannot be discounted. The motivation for the hoax’s are yet to be determined.
A nexus between the recent bomb hoax’s and the November 9 armed robbery has not been made. The incidents are believed to be unrelated, but investigators are considering all possibilities.
The Medicine Hat Police Service is releasing the voice of a suspect in at least one of the incidents in anticipation that the public can assist in identifying the person. Anyone with information can call the tip line at (403)502-8909 or leave a web tip at www.medicinehatpolice.com. The tips can be made anonymously or contact information can be provided for follow up.
Anyone with information wishing to speak a Priority Street Crimes investigator, can call the non-emergency Police line at (403)529-8481.
The Medicine Hat Police Service is encouraging the public to remain aware of their surroundings and not to hesitate in reporting suspicious behavior to Police.
