Student Charged with Uttering Death Threat

During the morning of October 10, 2017, the Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) was made aware of a threat involving a local school, made via a social media post by a student the night prior.

Police were quickly able to identify the student and attended the school to locate the male teen. The immediate threat was resolved and there was no disruption of the normal school day.

As per their protocol, the school activated a Violent Threat Risk Assessment in response to the threat, which is in place to respond to all situations in which students may be posing a threat to themselves or others.

Parents of students in the Medicine Hat Catholic School Division were notified of the incident via a letter sent home with all students in the division at the end of the school day.

As a result of the investigation, the MHPS have charged a 13 year old male with uttering death threats.

The MHPS would like to remind the public to immediately report any information, which appears to be threatening in nature, by calling 9-1-1 or 403-529-8481.
