Starting on May 13, 2009 the Municipal Bylaw Enforcement Section of the Medicine Hat Police Service will launch Focused Enforcement Program. Two days of each week two members of the section will focus enforcement efforts on one of four areas within the community that have been identified as priorities.
The four areas include:
- City Parks – patrolling parks and trails for violations including; dogs off leash, failing to clean up dog defecation, dogs not under control in off leash areas, alcohol in parks, illegal operation of vehicles and littering.
- Smoking violations in bus shelters, the transit parkade, smoking outside public places, and youth smoking offences.
- Littering and waste disposal including; unsecured loads of waste, improper disposal of waste, littering around schools and fast food restaurants and improper disposal of waste at charity bins.
- Downtown foot patrols, which will be conducted in addition to Police patrols of the area, to enforce littering, smoking, skateboarding, bikes on sidewalks, parking and graffiti.
On May 13th, two members will be conducting extensive patrols of several City parks, trails, and off leash areas. On May 15th, the first of regular planned foot patrols of the downtown area are planned.
The implementation of this program will not affect our response to our normal calls for service.
