High Visibility Response Team 2017 Season
The Medicine Hat Police Service High Visibility Response Team (HVRT) season will begin on June 30, 2017 and will operate until late August. The HVRT will consist of five members of the MHPS Community Safety Unit, who have completed specialized training as outlined by the Law Enforcement Bike Association.
The mandate of the HVRT for the 2017 season will be to focus on balancing enforcement with crime prevention strategies and the team will focus on providing a presence in the downtown core, in parks and on pathways and any other areas of concern that are identified.
Community engagement initiatives will also be a priority and some of the events that you can expect to see the HVRT at include; Canada Day, Alive After Five, Downtown Chili Cook Off, and the Medicine Hat Stampede. In addition, the team has already received numerous requests to provide demonstrations at various summer camps and will attempt to complete as many as they can.
Other areas of interest that the HVRT will provide attention to include:
- Loitering in the downtown area
- City Transit parkade
- Graffiti issues
- Ross Glen Waterpark
- South Ridge pond
- Skate park
- Echo Dale
- Lions, Strathcona, and Kin Coulee parks
Throughout the season, the HVRT members will be looking for opportunities to “catch” youth members of our community demonstrating positive behaviors for which they can be issued “tickets”. With the assistance of the Medicine Hat Safe Community Association, the HVRT members will be handing out coupons to youth that are wearing proper biking attire and conducting themselves in a positive manner.
We look forward to a great summer season!
