Male in Custody Following Armed Standoff with Police

Justin Lagasse, 38-years-old, of Medicine Hat, AB, made his first court appearance on February 13, 2018. Lagasse is facing criminal charges of Uttering Threats to Cause Bodily Harm, Criminal Harassment, Attempted Break and Enter and numerous firearms related offences. He has been remanded in custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for March 19, 2018.

On February 12, 2018 at approximately 2:30 am, members of the Medicine Hat Police Service attended to an address on Cuyler Rd SE to arrest a male accused of criminal harassment and uttering threats towards a female victim.

When approached by officers, the male produced a firearm and threatened to kill himself. Officers set up containment outside of the residence and began negotiating with the accused. After several hours officers deployed a chemical agent into the residence, at which time the male exited the residence, and was arrested without further incident.

The 38-year-old male is facing charges of; uttering threats, criminal harassment and numerous firearm related offences.

The MHPS thanks the public for their patience and cooperation throughout this event.  The area is now clear and residents can return home.
